Miss TS Seychelles
MISS TS INTERNATIONAL (UK) 2006
We interview Miss TS Seychelles representative- Miss Carmen Regine Contfait winner of Miss TS International 2006 to get up close and personal and share her thoughts on the pageant.
What enticed you to join the pageant?
I was really interested to enter Miss TS International because it's the only beauty pageant exclusively for transexuals and when I was only first runner up in the first ever Miss TS in 2004, it wasn't enough for me and I told myself I need to be on that stage again and make sure I get that crown for sure the next time!
What kind of preparation did you make last year?
Don't ask! That's actualy the most important thing in this pageant believe me if you are not prepared make sure not to be on that stage unless you at least believe in yourself and believe that you can make it. I did have plan A and plan B and made sure I had at least two costumes because you never know what might happen should one of your costumes go wrong at least the other one will be a back up. At this point I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who helped me during that time. My family and friends from Manchester and all my sponsors and specialy my sister Shamine who did my make-up and thank you again I don't think it would have been possible to win if they were not around.
Who did you feel was your tightest competitor and why?
It was me, myself and I. I'm always in competition with myself! Though I have a pure heart I'm a bit crazy sometimes. The only girl I felt was my competition was probably Miss Philippines she's got a pure heart, she's nice and I like her and love her energy!
How would you best describe your pageant experience?
Well as they say it's a competition so don't think that you're going to get help from any of the other contestants! I must admit it was a long journey for me. I was a bit nervous only back stage really. There was a time when my name was called out and I came out late. I was so nervous I even forgot to go on the stage to collect my prize. I even fell down all the steps back stage (OUCH!) It was too dark for me to see where I was going! Oh lord help me lol.. I actually hurt my back but I said to myself get up Regine you're not gonna give up after all the effort you've made and all the surport you're getting from the others! I got myself together and got back on that stage with my sore back plus a big smile on my face like nothing happened. Remember girls you got to keep on going that's whats life is all about! It shouldn't be called Miss TS really because it's more like Miss Drama Queen..lol..
Overall it was a great experience I even felt overly emotional during the final interview, I even cried! Oh lord that was embarassing and my mum was crying too that was a bit too touchy for me I will always remember this until i lose my memory! Wow!!
How does it feel to win a pageant? Had you entered other beauty pageants before or was this your first time?
I love it!! If I said I didn't care if I ever joined another pageant I would be lying!! I'm really looking forward to competing in Miss TS Diamond- The battle of the Queens in 2009!! God I will look old by then- I hope not!!
I also won Miss Alternative London at the Way OUt Club in 2002 as the first ever transsexual in the history of my little country- The islands of Seychelles. I think I'm doing good and I'm even helping other sisters from everywhere even back in the Seychelles after all I'm not the only transsexual I know of in the UK from the Seychelles. There's another girl and she's stunning I hope there will be more and I'm more than happy to help them because we should help one another. It's not that easy when you decide to transition. I can imagine how hard it is especialy when you come from a country where there are few or even no transsexuals at all!! Believe me it's hard so I'm really proud of myself to be honest.
What are your tips for this year’s candidates?
You better prepare early!! Prepare mentally, physically and emotionally! Just be yourself girls I can't say don't be nervous because you will be until you're on the stage when you will be more relaxed. Truly believe in yourself and make sure you think of the crown.. that's what you came for right? so get it!
At the end of the day we all are winners anyway so I just want to wish all the girls for this year's event good luck to you all and remember to keep smiling always no matter what because it will do you good. One more thing to all the contestants for this year make sure you are all well prepared and keep your chin up and show that beautiful smile you all are winners for me!
If there was a formula to win what would it be?
Formula? What formula? I can't tell you that.. That's my own little secret.. lol There's no such thing!! If you take in what I have said above- thats the formula- just put all your effort, your energy and everything that you work hard for before the pageant.. thats the formula!
Good luck to all my darling netetou you all are the winner in my eyes ..i will see you all netetou girls on stage and have a netetou Christmas and New Year .xxxx
